Europe's Future - Citizens Views
Students split themselves into groups of 6 and set up workshops with about 15 participants, both young and old from Friesland and Groningen in the Northern part of the Netherlands. Great care was taken to ensure the objectivity of these workshops and to make sure that students were acting as impartial researchers into the views of citizens. The major areas discussed included, economy, migration policy, governance and democracy within the EU, defence and populism. Sometimes of course these subject areas are mixed together. Some basic information to inform discussions was provided by the students. As much as possible straw polls (show of hands) were taken to ascertain on which side of certain discussions the majority was in favour. The results are the views of citizens both young and old on the key questions facing the EU at the moment.
